Issue Management

Issue Management

Despite being well-recognised as an important management skill, relatively few people are formally trained in issue management. As an organisational capability, issues management requires an interdisciplinary approach, with skills from stakeholder management, risk analysis, crisis planning, finance and strategic planning.

At CICM we provide clients with a detailed and highly effective method of analysing complex issues. The benefits of applying issue management are considerable and well documented. As a discipline, issue management provides organisations with a better understanding of emerging narratives and stakeholder perspective. In particular, it helps highlight the extent of any gap between an organisation’s policy and stakeholders’ expectations and can prevent an issue evolving into a crisis.

At CICM we provide both consultancy and training in issue management. We advise about how best to manage the factual and emotional elements of an issue as well as associated perceptions. We provide advice and guidance on issue analysis, framing and reframing, recommended positions and issues that are replete with stakeholder conflict and complexity.

We can also provide guidance in developing a framework that shows management and leadership teams how to create an effective issue management capability within an organisation, which supports crisis management, policy development, organisational strategy and decision-making.
